Artefakt Rugs was set up in 2015 by Michal Tylicki to design and create beautiful hand tufted rugs, wall hangings and artpieces. Designs are bespoke and can be one of Michal's original patterns or a collaboration with the client. Only the best quality 100% wool is used and the colour range is endless. Michal studied Industrial Design at the Koszalin University of Technology in Poland, and was granted the Degree of Master of Arts in Design in 2004. He attended the Grennan Mill Craft School in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland (2012 - 2014) where he became skilful in Ceramics, Printmaking, Batik, Metalcraft & Woven Textiles. It is in the field of Woven Textiles that Michal excelled, designing and crafting beautifully tufted rugs. Michal set up Artfakt Rugs in early 2015 in the workshop behind his home in the hills above Thomastown - a cottage industry in the truest sense of the word.
The Cushen family have been making high quality textiles from the fleece of Irish sheep at their mill in Graignamanagh since the late 1700s. The woollen trade in Graignamanagh traces its origins back to the time of the monks when Duiske Abbey was established in 1204. Fleece from the protected white faced ‘Galway’ sheep continues to be dyed, carded and spun at their mill to produce quality yarns and fabrics of unique colour and design. The provenance of their Irish wool fabric is unique to a single line which can be traced "from fleece to fabric". This family run business takes pride in upholding the age-old skills and traditions of the textile trade. All Cushendale products are made from natural fibres with skilled hand and eye attention at each stage ensuring the highest quality. Cushendale natural fibre products include blankets, throws, scarves and knitting yarn made from Irish wool, mohair and lambswool.
